Job description

Job Purpose
  • Lead the Debt Capital Markets (“DCM”) business unit which is responsible for the origination and execution of both ZAR bonds and Eurobonds for Nedbank and the NCIB client base.
  • Foster collaboration with bond syndicate, lending teams across Investment Banking and Property Finance, Sustainable Finance Solutions, Markets and Coverage in arranging and/or participating in primary market bond transactions.
  • Develop deal pipeline and drive strategic initiatives aimed at furthering NCIB’s presence and profile in the local and international debt capital markets.
Job Responsibilities

Business Leadership

• Manage the overall performance of the DCM business unit, meeting financial and non-financial targets including achieving market leading positioning in relevant DCM league tables.

• Further develop the profile and reputation of the DCM franchise by leading landmark transactions, providing excellent client service, and receiving market recognition.

• Improve business processes, models, and systems relevant to the Debt Capital Markets.

• Provide thought leadership and market intelligence to internal and external stakeholders, including market trends, insights and competitor activity.

Client Engagement

• Build new and maintain existing client/issuer relationships through pitching, networking/conferencing and thought leadership.

  • Deliver market leading DCM solutions to the NCIB client base.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

• Implement and maintain suitable governance policies and controls appropriate to the DCM product.

Team Development

• Mentor, train and develop the DCM team.

• Embed Nedbank values by ensuring direct reports understand and support Nedbank's vision, values and strategy and are measured on delivery against these metrics.

• Manage performance of direct reports by implementing and reviewing performance agreements and providing regular feedback on performance.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Master’s Degree
Preferred Qualification
  • Relevant master’s degree (Commerce, Legal or Science).
  • Professional qualifications - Chartered Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst.
Minimum Experience Level
  • 10 years’ experience in Fixed Income Markets (min 5 years in Debt Capital Markets)
  • Strong track record of originating debt opportunities in an Investment Banking environment.
