Minimum Education:
- NQF 8 BSc (Hons.) Degree in Chemistry, Natural Sciences, or Innovation & Technology
- NQF 7 Management qualification
- Registration with a recognized professional body
Desired Education:
- NQF 9 Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Natural Sciences, or Innovation Technology
- NQF 8 Management qualification
Minimum Experience:
- Eight years’ experience, including at least five years in laboratory management (human, financial, and infrastructure resources)
- Experience in applying laboratory and environmental quality assurance (QA), good laboratory practice (GLP), and management systems, including laboratory safety practices
- Five years’ experience providing consultancy services related to chemical and environmental sciences and drinking water quality chemistry
- Over five years’ experience in developing, implementing, and managing multidisciplinary research programs or problem-solving investigations
- Proven record of scientific publications and report writing
Primary Duties:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the Chemistry Section to establish competent, accredited laboratories with necessary resources for chemical data provision
- Oversee the selection of analytical infrastructure, methodologies, instrumentation, and skills to optimize analytical testing procedures
- Manage procurement of laboratory goods and services in compliance with Rand Water SCM policies
- Manage human resources to ensure an effective workforce capable of delivering on the section’s responsibilities
- Ensure timely delivery of analytical data meeting national and international standards (e.g., SANS 241, Blue Drop, Green Drop)
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to water chemistry from source to tap
- Manage quality and safety in inorganic and organic chemistry laboratories to meet standards such as ISO 17025, ISO 9000, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, even during pandemics
- Provide consultancy and technical support in inorganic and organic chemistry to internal departments and external partners
- Initiate and manage innovative water-related research and investigations supporting strategic objectives
