Job summary

The South African National Blood Service is recruiting to oversee the Blood Grouping section within the Donation Testing Department. The role requires expertise in 1st and Confirmatory Blood Grouping (ABO, Rh, irregular antibodies) and timely result transmission while complying with quality standards.

Qualified HPCSA Medical Technologists in Blood Transfusion with at least 4 years of transfusion experience are preferred to lead the team and ensure accurate, compliant blood grouping and release

Qualifications

• HPCSA Registered Medical Technologist (Blood Transfusion) is required.
• Minimum 4 years of Blood Transfusion experience.
• Experience in Blood Grouping, ABO/Rh testing and serology desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Blood Grouping section of the Donation Testing Department.
• Oversee 1st Line and Confirmatory Blood Grouping, including ABO, Rh, irregular antibody screening and related tests.
• Ensure timely transmission of results within strict turnaround times.
• Uphold quality standards and adherence to protocols.
• Provide technical expertise in Blood Grouping and review/release results.

Job description

The incumbent will be responsible to manage the Blood Grouping section of the Donation Testing Department. Responsibilities include managing 1st Line and Confirmatory Blood Grouping (including ABO, Rh, Irregular antibody screening, allo-agglutinin titre and Syphilis testing) and transmission of results within strict turnaround times, whilst ensuring all quality standards and protocols are strictly adhered to. Provide technical expertise in the field of Blood Grouping. Ensure all operational goals are met and service delivery is optimised. They must be multi-skilled in the Donation Testing Department to review and release results.
