The Hatchery Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the poultry hatchery, ensuring the production of high-quality day-old chicks according to production targets and biosecurity standards. This role involves managing all aspects of the hatchery process, including egg handling, incubation, hatching, chick processing, sanitation, maintenance, and staff supervision. The Hatchery Manager will play a critical role in optimizing hatchery performance, minimizing losses, and contributing to the overall success of the poultry operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Hatchery Operations Management:
- Oversee all daily operations within the hatchery, ensuring adherence to established protocols and best practices.
- Manage the incubation process, monitoring temperature, humidity, ventilation, and egg turning to maximize hatchability.
- Supervise the hatching process, ensuring timely and efficient chick removal.
- Oversee chick processing activities, including sexing, grading, vaccination, and any other required treatments.
- Implement and maintain strict biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure a hygienic environment.
- Monitor and analyze hatchery performance data (e.g., fertility, hatchability, chick quality) to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of all hatchery activities, including egg inventory, incubation cycles, hatch results, and chick distribution.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as breeder farms and grow-out farms, to ensure a seamless flow of information and materials.
Staff Management and Development:
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate hatchery staff.
- Develop work schedules and allocate tasks effectively to ensure efficient operations.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
