Job description

Job Overview

The Hall Head (HH) is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of residential students and overseeing community development within their designated residence halls. Reporting to the Director of Pastoral Care (DoPC), the Hall Head supervises Resident Assistants (RAs) and other student leaders within the residential spaces, manages hall activities, and fosters students' personal, interpersonal, and intellectual growth.

The Hall Head manages two halls, keeps accountability towards the delivery of an excellent residential life program in their Halls, oversees the well-being of the students and holds students up to expectations in residential life.

Key Responsibilities
Student Well-Being & Safety
  1. Ensure a clean, organized, and safe living environment by conducting regular room checks and maintaining hygiene standards.
  2. Address and report maintenance and safety concerns to the Director of Pastoral Care.
  3. Monitor student health and provide necessary referrals for medical or emotional concerns.
  4. Enforce ALA’s policies on safety, conduct, and personal responsibility.
Community Building
  1. Foster an inclusive and engaging community within the residence halls.
  2. Organise and lead hall meetings, ensuring students actively participate in community life.
  3. Support students in managing stress, homesickness, and personal challenges.
  4. Encourage peer mentorship and positive interpersonal relationships.
Student Leadership Development
  1. Supervise and mentor Resident Assistants (RAs) and other student leaders.
  2. Guide students in self-leadership, accountability, and communal responsibility.
  3. Conduct one-on-one meetings with student leaders to review dorm activities and address concerns.
Program Support
  1. Ensure evening, weekend, and long weekend duty is conducted.
  2. Maintain accurate reports on each student’s progress within the dormitory.
  3. Participate in meetings, training, and professional development programs such as community of practice engagement.
Student Success
  1. Evaluate and monitor the progress of students and keep up-to-date student records as may be required.
  2. Contribute to the preparation of individual education plans, progress files and other reports.
  3. Take part in community activities including, but not limited to, parents’ conferences, open days and parental workshops.
  4. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including but not limited to parents, year heads and wellness.
Teaching & Extracurricular Involvement (if applicable)
  1. Some Hall Heads may have teaching responsibilities, comprising up to 20% of their duties.
  2. Engage in co-curricular activities, mentorship, and campus initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Essential:
  2. Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, psychology, or a related field).
  3. Experience working with young adults, preferably in a boarding school or residential program.
  4. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Commitment to student well-being, diversity, and inclusion.
  6. Desirable:
  7. Postgraduate qualifications in education or a related field.
  8. Experience in international education or working with multicultural student communities.
  9. Familiarity with student development models and leadership training.

Additional Information
