Overview

A well-established and reputable accounting firm is seeking a meticulous and experienced Tax Accountant to join their growing team. The firm offers a professional yet flexible working environment with an emphasis on quality, integrity, and client service. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all tax compliance and reporting requirements for a range of clients. This includes preparing tax returns, ensuring adherence to SARS regulations, and advising on both local and international tax matters.

This is a half-day position (8am - 1pm), ideal for professionals seeking flexibility and work-life balance. However, there is the option to extend to a full-day role, with the salary adjusted accordingly based on the number of hours worked.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit accurate tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Provisional Tax, Income Tax, etc.) in accordance with statutory deadlines
  • Ensure full compliance with SARS and other relevant tax authorities
  • Perform tax reconciliations and prepare working papers for audits
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax consultants where necessary
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the impact on the business
  • Provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions
  • Manage tax provisions and maintain effective controls and documentation
  • Respond to SARS queries and manage tax audits
  • Prepare and submit provisional and annual tax computations
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation
  • Registered Tax Practitioner (essential)
  • Accreditation with SAIPA, SAIT, or SAICA - advantage
  • Minimum of 3 years' recent experience in a tax-focused role
  • Solid understanding of South African tax laws and international tax principles
  • Proficiency in SARS eFiling and accounting/tax software
  • Experience in submission of all relevant tax returns for companies and individuals
  • Proven ability to handle SARS disputes, run SARS meetings, and review tax calculations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
