Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, detail-driven Senior Bookkeeper to join an established and professional business consulting group on a 12-month fixed term contract, half-day and hybrid. This role supports multiple companies within their portfolio. This is a fixed term - 12 months contract, half-day, hybrid role (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). Monday to Friday 8am - 2pm.

About the Role

As Senior Bookkeeper, you will take ownership of the full bookkeeping and payroll function across multiple entities. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to ensure accurate financials, smooth payroll cycles, timely statutory submissions, and strong financial controls. This role is ideal for someone who prefers a structured half-day work schedule while still operating at a senior, multi-entity bookkeeping level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records across all companies using Xero Accounting
  • Bank, credit card, POS and card machine reconciliations
  • Capture and categorise all income, expenses, and journals
  • Prepare and send invoices and reconcile consultant timesheets to client invoices
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Process and manage monthly payroll across all entities
  • Submit VAT201, EMP201, EMP501 and handle all SARS compliance
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, cashflow reports, and variance analysis
  • Improve financial processes, controls, and documentation
  • Liaise with suppliers, staff, the leadership team, and external accountants

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3–7 years’ experience as a senior bookkeeper
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero (must-have)
  • Strong experience with VAT, PAYE, EMP201/501, UIF and SARS submissions
  • Confident in payroll processing
  • Experience working across multiple entities is highly advantageous
  • Excellent reconciliation skills (including timesheet-to-invoice)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and administration ability
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
