Half-day Bookkeeper

Job Description

A holding company of a large upmarket retailer in the decor and lifestyle space is looking for a reliable and skilled Bookkeeper. This role is a half-day position (preferably mornings only) and suited to a vibrant, energetic individual who can focus and efficiently complete tasks. The role involves managing the financial and accounting functions for the smaller companies within the group.

This in-office role may require some online work from home outside of working hours, mainly related to loading wages payments—no more than an hour remotely.

Daily Tasks:

• Capture bank statements and allocate transactions
• Manage accounts receivable, including credit notes and refunds
• Oversee payment allocations
• Handle accounts payable, including capturing purchase orders, marking deliveries, and tracking orders
• Maintain Petty Cash box, perform cash reconciliation, and manage cash float

Weekly Tasks:

• Bank reconciliations
• Payables for all entities
• Wages for all entities
• Process remittances
• Weekend casual wage preparations for two entities

Monthly Tasks:

• Payroll for 2-3 entities; external accountant manages PAYE/UIF/SDL, but candidate prepares documentation
• VAT documentation preparation; managed bi-monthly by external accountant
• Preparation and review of management accounts for all entities

Other Responsibilities:

• Assist with HR-related tasks
• Manage leave records
• Liaise with Sage on queries

Requirements:

Proficiency in the following software is essential:

• Sage Evolution
• Sage Online
• Excel

This role involves direct interaction with owners, clients, and an external accountant. Loyalty and commitment are crucial, and a solid employment history is expected.

Fluency in Afrikaans is preferable.
