The Financial Controller will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, statutory accounts preparation, and management of external audit processes within the organization. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Consolidate financial data from various departments and subsidiaries, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Analyse financial results and trends, providing insights to senior management for decision-making purposes.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
- Statutory Accounts Preparation :
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of statutory accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather necessary financial information and ensure completeness and accuracy of disclosures.
- Review and reconcile account balances to ensure integrity and compliance with auditing standards.
- External Audit Management :
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, facilitating audit planning, execution, and resolution of audit findings.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide supporting documentation as requested by auditors.
- Address audit queries and findings in a timely manner, collaborating with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and assess audit recommendations to improve financial controls and processes.
- Compliance and Risk Management :
- Stay abreast of changes in financial reporting regulations and standards, ensuring the organization's compliance.
- Identify financial risks and implement measures to mitigate them, safeguarding the organization's assets and reputation.
- Conduct periodic reviews of internal controls and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Tax Planning and Compliance :
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with South African tax laws.
- Oversee / assist in the preparation and filing of accurate and timely tax returns, including income tax, VAT, PAYE, and any other relevant taxes.
- Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations in South Africa, and advise management on the potential impact on the company's financial affairs.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and government authorities as necessary.
- VAT Management :
- Oversee all aspects of Value-Added Tax (VAT) compliance, including registration, filings, and payments.
- Review VAT calculations and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Provide guidance to other departments on VAT implications for various transactions and business activities.
- Leadership and Team Management :
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and improve cross-functional communication.
REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CA(SA) or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Proven experience (3 years) in financial reporting, statutory accounts preparation, and external audit management, preferably in a similar industry or role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and auditing standards (IFRS)
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights effectively.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel).
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership and team management experience, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
