Job description

Job Title: Group Executive : Research Impact

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the HSRC seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and respected executive leader, academic, and scholar to take on the responsibilities of Group Executive : Research Impact.

The successful incumbent will be required to lead, mentor, and direct a team of research specialists across various strategic units. They will drive the formulation of impact assessment strategies, innovate methodologies, and coordinate working groups to realize the vision of Research Impact and the HSRC's goals.

The candidate will ensure the quality of research outputs, facilitate research dissemination strategies, foster research partnerships and collaborations, and drive the HSRC's impact in policy-engaged research.

Minimum Requirements
  1. A PhD in Social Sciences or related fields (NQF 10).
  2. Fifteen years of experience as a senior researcher, managing and leading senior research teams with demonstrable impactful outcomes.
  3. At least ten years of experience in strategic and senior management roles within academic or research institutions.
  4. An academic leader with a strong publication record (books, chapters, journal articles), including international publications, with first or sole authorship preferred.
  5. Excellent networking skills and experience working with senior policymakers and decision-makers.
  6. Fluency in English.
Responsibilities
  1. Provide strategic leadership for Research Impact, including quality assurance, science communication, impact assessment, and dissemination of research outputs.
  2. Collaborate with Unit managers to oversee strategic administrative support and ensure adequate resourcing.
  3. Implement strategic initiatives to foster a culture of impact within the HSRC.
  4. Source and manage strategic external partnerships locally and internationally, aligning with the HSRC's social research objectives.
  5. Ensure the delivery of sustainable and impactful research that can inform policy and benefit government, communities, and state bodies.
