Job description

Description/Synopsis:
A leading global supplier in the fresh produce sector is seeking a Group Agriculture Executive to drive the strategic direction and operational performance of its agricultural operations across the African region. This senior role oversees fruit production, harvesting, packhouse operations, and orchard development, aligning with broader global growth and sustainability strategies. The role requires strong commercial acumen and a passion for high-impact agricultural innovation and profitability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant professional qualification is essential - Msc, CA(SA), CIMA, MBA, or Agricultural Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years' senior leadership experience in large-scale agriculture, horticulture, or fresh produce sector
  • Proven experience managing multi-site operations and driving cost-efficiency and performance
  • Strong business, commercial, and financial acumen
  • Familiarity with agri-tech tools and platforms will be advantageous
  • Experience in managing cross-border operations within Africa
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership capability

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic and operational execution of fruit production, harvesting, and packing across all African sites
  • Oversee technical evaluation of orchards and collaborate with agronomists and agri-tech partners
  • Develop and implement a 5-year expansion plan across the African region
  • Ensure continuous improvement in orchard health, sustainability practices, and crop yield
  • Work closely with the executive team on long-term planning and global market alignment
  • Partner with local and international stakeholders to enhance the brand and regional reputation
  • Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and financial performance reporting
  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and team optimisation
  • Accept and execute Health & Safety compliance responsibilities, including GMR2(1) accountability
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural, environmental, and labour legislation
