Position Summary
- The candidate should have extensive experience in the field of environmental sustainability and climate change, with participation in project executions.
- Knowledge of climate change policies, reporting standards, GHG Protocol, UNFCCC guidance, and IPCC guidelines is required.
- The GHG Verifier will report to the Climate Change Business Head and collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including Validation & Verification Bodies (VVB).
- This role focuses on South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa and involves conducting virtual and on-site verification audits, carbon accounting, emissions reduction strategy development, setting and achieving net-zero targets, and providing GHG training as needed.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential, along with the ability to liaise with government, private, and investment clients.
- Qualified auditors with certifications such as GHG, ISO 14065, ISO 14067, or CDM are preferred.
Responsibilities and Authority
- Review documentation and provide feedback to VVB to establish accurate audit plans and report timelines.
- Perform GHG emissions verifications through on-site and off-site audits of client operations, processes, and documentation, either as part of a team or as the lead auditor.
- Respond promptly to queries from VVB and project developers regarding V&V reviews.
- Draft documentation outlining the outcomes of V&V projects.
- Maintain records and documentation to support ISO 14065 accreditation and other standards.
- Assist in or deliver GHG training sessions for clients, both public and private.
- Support the preparation of project proposals for the sales team.
- Execute projects to achieve expected results, prepare final reports, and represent the team when needed.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including project developers, team members, and technical experts.
- Assist the business head in preparing relevant reports, such as pipeline updates.
- Support key client meetings as a technical expert.
Education and Experience
- A university degree or equivalent in engineering, natural sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
- Priority will be given to candidates with professional qualifications and experience in GHG auditing.
Location
- The candidate can work from either Johannesburg or Cape Town.
