Placements24 is seeking a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s Richards Bay site, supporting plant operations, maintenance and project engineering in a large-scale industrial environment.

You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to rotating machinery, piping, and safety compliance. A structured development program and mentorship will accelerate your learning and career growth.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
• Proficiency in using engineering software such as CAD (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• A proactive attitude towards safety and adherence to operational procedures.
• Willingness to work on-site in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, and engage directly with plant operations.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• A strong desire to learn and develop practical engineering skills in an industrial setting.
• Valid driver's license and ability to undergo medical assessments for site access.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Participate in the planning and execution of plant shutdowns and maintenance schedules.
• Support engineering projects, including design, installation, and commissioning of new equipment.
• Conduct performance monitoring and analysis of mechanical systems to identify areas for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards within the plant.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation related to engineering activities.
• Collaborate with operations teams to optimize equipment performance and reliability.
• Assist in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Gain practical experience in areas such as rotating machinery, pressure vessels, and piping systems.
• Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and process optimization projects within the plant.
