Job description

Our client, a global leader in manufacturing high-quality, innovative products for various markets worldwide, is seeking a GMR 2.1 Engineering Manager to join their team in the Hillcrest area, KZN. Preference will be given to local Zulu-speaking candidates. If you are originally from KZN and wish to return, your application will be considered.

The Engineering Manager will lead the mechanical, electrical, C&I, and project engineering resources on site, providing technical and managerial leadership to the engineering team, including Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Automation/Instrumentation groups.

Key Experience & Qualifications Required

  • Degree in Engineering (BEng/BSc Mechanical or Chemical Engineering) with 6+ years of experience, or BTech Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with 12+ years of experience.
  • Extensive managerial experience in engineering, maintenance, and project management, with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes in hazardous and flammable chemical environments (MHI).
  • GMR 2.1 certification & GCC Factories.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt qualification is advantageous.
  • Experience working with automated process control systems.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of managing department budgets.
  • Experience managing major capital projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programmes to ensure compliance with group and country regulatory requirements, such as OHS Act, MHI, DMR, etc., and improve site HSE performance.
  • Build and maintain external networks to stay informed about new technological developments.
  • Develop a capital programme balancing high-return projects with essential H&S, Quality, and infrastructure needs.
  • Be a key member of the SLT (site leadership team), developing site goals aligned with the company's vision and local strategy.
  • Introduce and develop new manufacturing techniques, including lean manufacturing and statistical methods.
  • Manage the site’s 5-year strategic capital plan, including spend forecasting.
  • Provide the site director with monthly updates on spend versus budget, with full ownership of CAPEX & OPEX budgets.
  • Develop the site maintenance strategy, balancing predictive, preventive, and reactive maintenance, and introduce maintenance KPIs to enhance performance. Establish a critical spares list and spares strategy to support maintenance activities.
