Job description

To assist the Controller – EMEA in the day-to-day management and accounting and financial accounting functions, including the provision of accurate and timely reports to the management team.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Responsibility for accounting records (Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet etc.) and maintaining accuracy of general ledger.
  2. Co-ordinate the project accounting requirements (revenue recognition, milestone invoices, deferred revenue) and extracting project reports from SAP for analysis and investigation of variances.
  3. Proactively manage the Accounts Receivable ledger to ensure timely recovery of all debts and where required, enlist support of Account Managers to recover overdue amounts.
  4. Assist with uploading and checking of monthly financial and statistical reports in OneStream (OS) system.
  5. Assist with the migration process of new acquisitions and work with SAP Migration team to ensure timely and accurate transition to Clients Mining processes.
  6. Timely lodgment of all statutory returns, reports and renewals (BBBEE, Annual Return of Earnings etc.).
  7. Participation in yearly company audits and liaison with external audit team.
  8. Assist in the month end and quarter end close process – journals, cost allocations, recharges etc.
  9. Assist with ongoing forecasts of Leica’s projected financial performance.
  10. Compliance with Clients Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, participation in audits and compliance with instructions given in respect of himself/herself and the safety of others.
  11. Other duties as required from time to time.

Dealing with Conflicting Priorities:

  1. Dealing with non-technical audience on finance/accounting issues.
  2. Ensuring appropriate audit trails, segregation of duties and cross-checking processes to meet audit requirements.

Knowledge and Experience - Required:

  1. Bachelor of Accounting/Commerce/Business or similar degree.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years commercial experience in similar role.
  3. Project Accounting/Management Accounting experience.
  4. Demonstrated high level experience in analyzing complex business and accounting problems and developing solutions to such problems.
  5. Demonstrated experience in a managerial and financial accounting environment using integrated/interfaced computerized financial systems.

Knowledge and Experience - Desired:

  1. Proven financial, management and reporting skills.
  2. Advanced understanding of integrated computerized financial systems.
  3. Working knowledge of SAP ERP system desirable.
  4. Commitment to continuous improvement and further development of skills.
  5. Well-developed analytical and financial modelling skills.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  7. Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  8. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  9. Ability to set and meet deadlines.
