Job description

Miradi Group (Pty) Ltd is an established built environment consultancy and professional architectural practice specialising in heritage, conservation, urban design, and facility management services. We are seeking to appoint a GIS Technician on a fixed-term contract to support our Heritage Audit projects within the City of Cape Town.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the identification, mapping, and conservation of Cape Town’s cultural heritage resources.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct spatial data capture and digitisation of heritage sites in ArcGIS.
• Create and maintain ESRI-compatible GIS datasets with standardised attribute tables.
• Support field survey teams with mapping requirements, including property boundaries and site coordinates.
• Compile GIS outputs for audit reports in the City’s required format.
• Ensure data quality control, metadata documentation, and consistency checks.
• Assist in integrating GIS data with heritage grading, significance statements, and photographic records.
• Collaborate with heritage practitioners, architects, and project managers to deliver high-quality audit reports.
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in GIS, Geography, Geoinformatics, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related field.
• Proven experience using ArcGIS Pro or fully compatible GIS software.
• Ability to digitise polygons, manage attributes, and produce maps to professional standards.
• Familiarity with heritage mapping or cultural resource management (advantageous).
• Proficient in MS Office Suite.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Desirable Skills
• Experience with AutoCAD Map 3D, ArchiTerra (ArchiCAD plugin), or other CAD/GIS integrations.
• Prior work on heritage audits or environmental impact assessments.
• Understanding of South African heritage legislation (NHRA Act 25 of 1999) beneficial.
