Somerset College is an independent co-educational school offering schooling from Grade 000 to Matric IEB and Cambridge AS and A levels. Founded in 1997 Somerset College is a welcoming, stimulating centre of learning situated in the beautiful Cape Winelands.

The school invites applications for the following position:

GERMAN TEACHER (SAL)

(SENIOR SCHOOL)

Commencement Date: 1 January 2026

Somerset College is a proud partner of the Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) programme and an accredited DSD l and DSD ll examination centre.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a minimum of five years’ experience in teaching German as a Second Additional Language (SAL) within the IEB curriculum (DSD experience and/or strong familiarity with the CERF framework up to C1 level would be advantageous;
  • teach German (SAL) across Grade 8 – 12 including preparation for DSD l and ll examinations;
  • plan the curriculum and ensure that it is aligned with both the IEB and DSD standards;
  • assist with DSD examination administration, training workshops and exchange programmes;
  • deliver lessons that are current, relevant and inspire confidence and proficiency in German among students;
  • demonstrate proficiency in using technology to enhance classroom teaching;
  • be familiar with digital language teaching tools;
  • provide mentoring and pastoral care to students;
  • contribute actively to the school’s extramural programme;
  • work collaboratively within a team of teachers;
  • exhibit strong communication, organisational and administrative skills to manage teaching duties effectively;
  • embrace the values of the College and show commitment to ongoing personal and professional development;
  • hold the necessary professional and academic qualifications;
  • provide proof of registration with SACE.
