Job description

Seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to provide specialist expertise for the construction of RDP houses and clinics in Chintsa, Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting soil and foundation assessments, ensuring structural integrity, and advising on ground stability to support the successful delivery of the project. Candidates that meet all requirements and are available to start by no later than 20 March 2025 are invited to apply.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 6 to 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with exposure to buildings, structural works, and infrastructure projects.
  3. Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
  4. Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement techniques.
  5. Experience in geotechnical investigations, site assessments, and laboratory testing.
  6. Familiarity with South African geotechnical and construction regulations.
  7. Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software and reporting.
  8. Ability to work closely with civil and structural engineers, architects, and construction teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct geotechnical investigations and site assessments to evaluate soil conditions.
  2. Analyze foundation stability, slope stability, and ground-bearing capacity.
  3. Provide technical recommendations for foundation design, ground improvement, and earthworks.
  4. Oversee geotechnical testing, data collection, and laboratory analysis.
  5. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure geotechnical risks are mitigated.
  6. Ensure compliance with ECSA regulations, municipal standards, and safety guidelines.
  7. Monitor construction activities to confirm adherence to geotechnical specifications.
  8. Prepare geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for stakeholders.
