Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Vereeniging to lead subsurface investigations, analyze soil/rock data and design foundations for diverse projects across Gauteng. You will supervise field staff, interpret lab results, and report findings to clients and engineers.

The ideal candidate has a 5+ year track record in geotechnical site investigations, solid report writing, and proficiency with PLAXIS and GEO5. Travel to site visits around Vereeniging is expected as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical specialization
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech. Eng.) required
• Minimum 5 years of geotechnical site investigations and design
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (PLAXIS, GEO5)
• Experience in planning and supervising field investigations
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site visits around Vereeniging

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage and execute subsurface investigations (boreholes, trial pits, in-situ testing)
• Supervise field technicians and manage equipment for geotechnical investigations
• Interpret soil and rock data, conducting laboratory testing analyses
• Perform stability analyses for slopes, excavations, and retaining structures
• Design foundations (shallow and deep; piles/rafts) per site conditions
• Develop recommendations for earthworks, soil improvement and ground support systems
• Prepare geotechnical investigation and foundation design reports and memos
• Liaise with clients, project managers, structural engineers and other stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with geotechnical standards and best practices
• Stay updated on advancements in geotechnical techniques
