Job summary

NatCarbon Africa seeks a Geospatial Field Technician for the Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape. The role blends field UAV operations with data processing, GIS analysis, and reporting to support carbon accounting and ecological monitoring.

You will plan flights, process imagery into orthomosaics and DSMs, manage datasets, and collaborate with Ecology, Conservation, and GIS teams. Travel to remote sites is expected; a Remote Pilot Certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Degree or relevant tertiary qualification in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, GIS, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Land Surveying, or related field.
  • 1–2 years' work experience in geospatial data collection or UAV operations.
  • Experience with remote sensing, image analysis, and GIS software.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute high-precision UAV flights to capture aerial imagery and spatial data across restoration sites.
  • Process raw imagery and sensor data to generate orthomosaics, DSMs, and other spatial products.
  • Manage and maintain geospatial databases and file systems.
  • Develop and implement geospatial tools, workflows, and templates to improve monitoring and reporting efficiency.
  • Integrate aerial data with ground-based monitoring datasets to support vegetation, biomass, and carbon assessments.
