Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a prominent mining and exploration company in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, ZA to hire a Geological Technician focused on core logging and sample analysis. The role supports resource evaluation and project development through accurate data collection.

The ideal candidate holds a National Diploma in Geology or Earth Science, with experience in core logging or sample handling, strong organizational skills, and MS Office proficiency. A hybrid work model may be available.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or equivalent in Geology, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience in geological core logging or sample handling is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office).
• Familiarity with geological terminology and terminology related to rock types and mineralization.

Responsibilities

• Accurately log diamond and RC drill core, describing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structural features.
• Prepare geological samples for assaying and other laboratory analyses.
• Perform basic geological field tests and measurements as required.
• Maintain detailed and organised records of drill core and sample information.
• Assist geologists in field mapping and data collection activities.
• Manage sample dispatches and track sample results from the laboratory.
• Ensure proper storage and organisation of drill core and reference samples.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and QA/QC procedures.
• Operate and maintain basic geological logging equipment and tools.
• Contribute to the maintenance of a clean and organised core shed and laboratory environment.
