Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Geological Technician for a North West mining operation in Mahikeng. This hybrid role combines hands-on fieldwork with office-based data management and analysis, supporting the geological team in data collection, sample preparation, and database maintenance.

You will log drill core, prepare samples for assaying, assist with field mapping, and ensure data accuracy. Proficiency in Excel and basic mapping tools is expected, with experience in Leapfrog/ArcGIS a

Qualifications

• National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Geological Technician or in a similar role within the mining industry.
• Familiarity with drill core logging procedures and geological terminology.
• Experience with sample preparation techniques for assaying.
• Basic knowledge of geological mapping and data recording.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience with geological software (Leapfrog, ArcGIS, Vulcan) is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare geological samples for laboratory analysis (e.g., crushing, splitting, packaging).
• Assist geologists in field mapping and data collection activities.
• Maintain and manage geological databases, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data entry.
• Prepare basic geological maps, cross-sections, and diagrams under supervision.
• Conduct basic quality control checks on geological data and samples.
• Assist with the maintenance and organization of core sheds and geological sample storage.
