Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geological Technician in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, ZA. The role focuses on accurate core logging, sample preparation, and preliminary geological analysis to support resource evaluation and project development.

You will work with geologists in a dynamic exploration setting, maintaining careful records and contributing to QA/QC, with a possible hybrid work arrangement for administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or equivalent in Geology, Earth Science, or related discipline.
• Prior experience in geological core logging or sample handling preferred.
• Basic understanding of geological terminology, rock types and mineralization.
• Familiarity with geological logging software or databases is an advantage.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical condition to handle core samples and perform fieldwork.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Commitment to safety and data integrity.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting findings.

Responsibilities

• Accurately log diamond and RC drill core, describing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structural features.
• Prepare geological samples for assaying and other laboratory analyses.
• Perform basic geological field tests and measurements as required.
• Maintain detailed and organised records of drill core and sample information.
• Assist geologists in field mapping and data collection activities.
• Manage sample dispatches and track sample results from the laboratory.
• Ensure the proper storage and organisation of drill core and reference samples.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and laboratory QA/QC procedures.
• Operate and maintain basic geological logging equipment and tools.
• Contribute to the maintenance of a clean and organised core shed and laboratory environment.
