Job summary

E-Merge is seeking an Intermediate AI Engineer to join its IDEA team in Sandton, Johannesburg. You will work on Generative AI, LLMs, and conversational AI across voice and digital channels, building production-grade solutions in an enterprise context.

You will collaborate with data and technology teams to integrate data, apply AI workflows, and ensure robust testing, deployment, and monitoring of AI systems. Strong Python skills and exposure to APIs and cloud platforms are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
• 4+ years' experience in software development, AI, ML, or data science.
• Strong programming fundamentals and practical experience with Python.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing Generative AI and LLM-based solutions.
• Support AI voice bots, chatbots, and conversational AI.
• Develop and integrate NLP/NLU, STT, and TTS capabilities.
• Assist with prompt engineering, RAG, LLM orchestration, and AI workflows.
• Develop and integrate AI solutions using Python, APIs, and cloud technologies.
• Support testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimisation of AI solutions.
• Work with data and technology teams to prepare and integrate data for AI applications.
• Assist in investigating AI performance, data, and integration issues.
• Explore emerging African-language AI and speech technologies.
• Contribute to technical documentation, development standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
