Job summary

E-Merge is seeking an AI Product Engineer to design and deliver AI-powered products that drive business value in Johannesburg. You will collaborate with business leaders, data scientists, and engineers to build scalable AI solutions and APIs.

The role focuses on deploying LLM-based systems, RAG architectures, and model optimization, with a strong emphasis on production readiness and security. Hybrid work is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/Data Science or related field.
• 3–4 years in software engineering, ML or data science; 2–3 years delivering AI solutions.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; exposure to JavaScript/TypeScript, Golang, or Rust beneficial.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering, and model evaluation.
• Proficiency with FastAPI, PyTorch, Hugging Face, Llama.cpp/Ollama, Pandas, NumPy, SQL Server, Linux Bash, and Windows PowerShell.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications and automation solutions.
• Collaborate with business, technology, and data teams to translate requirements into AI products.
• Build scalable APIs and AI services using modern frameworks.
• Develop and optimize LLM-based solutions, including RAG architectures and prompt engineering.
• Ensure AI solutions are secure, reliable, and production-ready.
• Continuously improve AI products through monitoring, testing, and user feedback.
