Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Manager: People & Culture to provide strategic business support. The incumbent will offer strategic guidance to the National Facility, aligning with the overall People & Culture strategy, business operating model, transformation, talent, and learning initiatives.

Duties

  1. Interpret, implement, and communicate the People & Culture strategic direction to integrate the people operating plan with business unit strategy.
  2. Create an annual People & Culture operating plan aligned with the business purpose and direction.
  3. Collaborate with business leaders to identify trends, shifts, or issues affecting strategy delivery.
  4. Contribute to strategic discussions, providing insights based on business knowledge.
  5. Support senior leaders on organizational development issues.
  6. Conduct organizational diagnosis, facilitate design, and advise on operating models and structures with guidance from OD specialists.
  7. Build relationships with stakeholders to understand operational impacts.
  8. Guide leaders on people management principles and processes.
  9. Act as a liaison between Centres of Excellence and the business.
  10. Ensure collaborative service delivery across functions.
  11. Champion Employment Equity initiatives and ensure compliance with EE Act, participating in EE Committee activities.
  12. Support leadership in performance management initiatives.
  13. Align learning and development initiatives with business strategy.
  14. Translate talent management requirements and validate talent bench strength for succession planning.
  15. Partner with senior leaders on appointments and drive change management initiatives.
  16. Embed Employee Value Proposition in practices and policies.
  17. Maintain effective relationships with the workforce and unions.
  18. Manage the People & Culture budget within allocated provisions.
  19. Prepare reports for the Head: People & Culture and the Managing Director.
  20. Analyze HR data, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Honours Degree / Post-Graduate Qualification in HR or industrial psychology (NQF 8).
  • 8-10 years of generalist HR experience.
  • At least 3-5 years managing a team and building HR capability, preferably in a research institution.
  • Experience in strategic planning and HR metrics.
  • Proven leadership in HR functions within a unionized environment.
  • Organizational Development experience and ability to engage leaders.
  • Facilitation skills and change management experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA).
  • Experience with HR systems and databases.
