Duties

Interpreting, implementing, and communicating the People & Culture strategic direction to assist in integrating the people operating plan with business unit strategy.

  1. Create an annual People & Culture operating plan for the business unit based on the purpose and direction of the business.
  2. Work with business unit leaders to identify key trends, shifts, or issues related to people that impact strategy delivery.
  3. Contribute constructively to strategic sessions and discussions, providing input from a business knowledge perspective.
  4. Support Senior Leaders on people and organizational development issues.
  5. Conduct organizational diagnosis, facilitate organizational design, and advise on operating model and structural design with guidance from the Organisational Development and Effectiveness team.
  6. Build relationships and networks with business leaders, including internal and external stakeholders, to understand operational impacts.
  7. Guide and advise leaders on key people management principles and processes.
  8. Serve as a liaison between Centres of Excellence functions and the business.
  9. Drive service delivery by fostering collaboration between functional areas within the Business Unit and People function.
  10. Influence line managers to champion Employment Equity initiatives and ensure compliance.
  11. Participate in the EE Committee and ensure compliance with the EE Act.
  12. Support leadership in driving performance measures such as targets and IDPs.
  13. Align learning and development initiatives with business strategy and outputs.
  14. Translate business talent management requirements into actionable plans.
  15. Validate talent bench strength with Line managers for succession and capability planning.
  16. Partner with Senior Leaders in delivering senior appointments.
  17. Drive change management for key business initiatives.
  18. Embed Employee Value Proposition in People & Culture practices and policies.
  19. Build and maintain effective relationships with the workforce and Union.
  20. Manage the Business Unit People & Culture budget within allocated provisions.
  21. Coordinate quarterly and monthly HR reports for leadership.
  22. Analyze, interpret, and report on HR data, ensuring data integrity within the business unit.

Requirements

  1. Honours Degree / Post-Graduate Qualification, NQF 8 in HR-related or industrial psychology field.
  2. 8-10 years of generalist HR experience.
  3. At least 3-5 years managing a team and building strategic HR capability, preferably in a research institution.
  4. 3 years proven experience in strategic planning, formulation, and execution.
  5. Experience with HR Metrics.
  6. Leadership experience in a unionized environment.
  7. Organizational Development experience and ability to engage with leaders.
  8. Experience facilitating group sessions and driving change.
  9. Knowledge of LRA, BCEA, EEA, and related HR legislation.
  10. Knowledge of HR Systems and databases.
