Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Manager: People & Culture to provide strategic business support. The incumbent will offer strategic guidance aligned with the overall People & Culture strategy, business operating model, transformation, talent, and learning for our client.

Duties

  1. Create an annual People & Culture operating plan aligned with the business unit’s purpose and direction.
  2. Collaborate with business leaders to identify key trends, shifts, or issues affecting strategy delivery.
  3. Contribute to strategic discussions with insights from business knowledge.
  4. Support senior leaders on people and organizational development issues.
  5. Conduct organizational diagnosis, facilitate design, and advise on operating models and structures.
  6. Build relationships with stakeholders to understand operational impacts.
  7. Guide leaders on people management principles and processes.
  8. Act as a liaison between Centers of Excellence and the business.
  9. Ensure collaborative service delivery across functional areas.
  10. Champion Employment Equity initiatives and ensure compliance.
  11. Participate in EE Committees and ensure legislative compliance.
  12. Support leadership in performance management initiatives.
  13. Align learning and development initiatives with business strategy.
  14. Translate talent management requirements into actionable plans.
  15. Assess talent bench strength for succession planning.
  16. Partner with leaders on senior appointments.
  17. Drive change management initiatives.
  18. Embed Employee Value Proposition in practices and policies.
  19. Maintain effective relationships with the workforce and unions.
  20. Manage the People & Culture budget within allocated resources.
  21. Prepare reports for leadership on HR metrics and data.
  22. Ensure data integrity within HR systems.

Requirements

  • Honours Degree / Post-Graduate Qualification in HR or industrial psychology (NQF 8).
  • 8-10 years of HR generalist experience.
  • 3-5 years of team management and strategic HR capability building, preferably in research institutions.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and HR metrics.
  • Experience leading HR functions in unionized environments.
  • Organizational Development expertise and leadership engagement skills.
  • Ability to facilitate group sessions and drive change.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA).
  • Experience with HR systems and databases.
