Role Definition

The Regional Category Manager delivers business solutions that are globally effective and applicable to support the execution of the procurement vision and strategy. This leadership role involves overseeing a team of 5 individuals in South Africa, including 2 in procurement and 3 in BBBEE space. The manager will supervise, direct, and coach the team while interfacing with business partners in the region.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of 5 individuals, providing supervision, direction, and coaching to ensure effective performance.
  • Manage the overall design and development of procurement solutions, collaborating with senior stakeholders and business users.
  • Execute key strategic initiatives such as the development of standardized best practices, offerings, services, and associated tools & training.
  • Drive adoption of procurement and BBBEE programs, identifying continuous improvement opportunities and mitigating risks.
  • Conduct contract negotiations and manage procurement and supply chain activities.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to support manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Interface with all entities in South Africa, ensuring alignment with regional business priorities.
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to senior management, leveraging data analytics and effective communication techniques.

Business Process Improvement: Knowledge of business process improvement best practices and ability to use methods for identifying, evaluating, introducing and implementing more efficient approaches to performing business related activities – Level: Extensive Experience.

Data Analytics: Knowledge of techniques and processes for inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data; ability to discover useful information, draw logical conclusions, and support decision-making – Level: Working Knowledge.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors – Level: Extensive Experience.

Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner – Level: Working Knowledge.

Matrix Management: Understanding of the importance of being able to leverage external resources when required and ability to build and use effective working relationships within own department and across department, functional, and geographic reporting lines – Level: Working Knowledge.

Cost-Benefit Analysis: Knowledge of the principles and tools used in cost-benefit analysis; ability to analyze the purpose and scope of a producer, product, process, or project in terms of cost and benefits – Level: Working Knowledge.

Category Management: Knowledge of category management within an organization's goods and services sector; ability to use this knowledge to analyze and improve the end-to-end procurement process and maximize business profitability – Level: Working Knowledge.

Procurement Function: Knowledge of responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of procurement function; ability to perform tasks and activities of the procurement functions or department – Level: Working Knowledge.

Basic Requirements

  • Proven experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and coach a team.
  • Knowledge of BBBEE program and its implementation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Experience in manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Ability to develop and execute procurement strategies.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and reporting methods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with business partners and government entities.
