Job summary

General Manager: Operations for the Cape Town plant leads end‑to‑end operations, focusing on delivery, efficiency, cost control, safety and discipline. You will oversee production, procurement, stores and dispatch, ensuring top‑quality results in a technically demanding environment.

The role requires practical leadership in electrical assembly, panel building or engineered‑to‑order manufacturing, with the ability to engage on the factory floor and at senior level.

Qualifications

• National Diploma/N6 or trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–10 years in electrical assembly, panel building or engineered‑to‑order manufacturing.
• 5+ years leading a workshop or production team of 15+ people.
• Experience with production planning, scheduling and operational management.
• Experience with job costing, procurement and supplier management.
• ERP or manufacturing systems implementation is a plus.

• Lead and manage day‑to‑day factory and operational activities.
• Drive production planning, scheduling, capacity management and on‑time delivery.

General Manager: Operations: Engineering and Industrial Sector

Location: Cape Town

This is a senior operational leadership role within an established engineering and manufacturing business, with responsibility for the performance of the Cape Town factory and its end-to-end operations.

Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager: Operations will oversee production, project execution, procurement, stores, and dispatch, with a strong focus on delivery, efficiency, cost control, safety, and operational discipline.

The environment is technical and project-driven and requires a leader with practical experience in electrical assembly, panel building or engineered‑to‑order manufacturing. The role will suit someone who is equally comfortable working at leadership level and engaging directly with teams on the factory floor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all day‑to‑day factory and operational activities.
• Drive production planning, scheduling, capacity management, and on‑time delivery.
• Oversee project execution from accepted order through to delivery and commissioning support.
• Manage procurement, supplier performance, stores, and inventory.
• Maintain strong job‑costing discipline and investigate operational variances.
• Improve operational efficiency, workflow, and bottleneck resolution.
• Lead the implementation and adoption of manufacturing and ERP systems.
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality, housekeeping, and site discipline.
• Lead, develop and hold accountable workshop and operational teams.

Experience & Qualifications:

• 8-10 years' experience in electrical assembly, panel building or comparable engineered‑to‑order manufacturing.
• At least 5 years' experience leading a workshop or production team of 15 or more employees.
• Strong experience in production planning, scheduling, and operational management.
• Proven experience in job costing, procurement, and supplier management.
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems implementation would be advantageous.

The role requires a practical, commercially aware operations leader who can bring structure, accountability, and consistent execution to a technically demanding manufacturing environment.
