Job description

We are looking for a highly driven and qualified candidate to fit the position of General Manager for a Multinational FMCG company in Zambia.

The position will report to the Board of Directors and will have the overall responsibility of developing and implementing a sustainable and successful operation. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing day-to-day Grand Parent broiler breeding operations (farms and hatchery), sales, technical support, finances, planning, customer service, logistics, administration, human resources, health and safety, and animal welfare compliance.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and implement a long-term business plan and annual budget to achieve business goals.
  2. Oversee daily business operations.
  3. Provide leadership at all organizational levels.
  4. Engage with joint venture partners to ensure overall success.
  5. Recruit, interview, hire, and mentor new talent.
  6. Define and enforce policies and performance standards.
  7. Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and support.
  8. Assess departmental and company performance, devising improvement plans.
  9. Manage profit and loss statements, controlling costs and revenues.
  10. Allocate budget resources effectively.
  11. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, legal, health & safety, and fiscal regulations.
  12. Develop relationships with government authorities and organizations to influence industry policies and practices.
  13. Maintain direct sales of Parent Stock chicks through building relationships with regional management, negotiating product terms.
  14. Support technical service to customers, including veterinary, incubation, and nutritional support, to ensure product performance and feedback for R&D.
  15. Oversee production to balance high demands with quality, cost control, and welfare standards.
  16. Coordinate production, sales planning, and customer service to meet client requirements.
  17. Lead the management team in motivation, recruitment, training, and organizational development.
  18. Manage financials with full P&L responsibility and ensure CAPEX procedures are followed within budget.
  19. Travel: 30-40 days of international travel, including weekends as needed.

  • Prioritize tasks and streamline processes for maximum productivity.
  • Resolve conflicts efficiently and effectively.
  • Analyze options to determine the best course of action for company goals.
  • Assess past and current performance to recommend improvements.
  • Proficiency in English is essential; additional language skills are desirable.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of poultry production management and customer interaction experience (a relevant Bachelor's degree is preferred).
  • Experience working with multinational stakeholders across functions, cultures, and geographies.
  • Experience in joint venture partnerships is highly desirable.
  • Experience working abroad in Sub-Saharan Africa and with JV partners is an advantage.
