Job description

Lead, direct, and control the activities of our assets in Africa (Zambia; DRC; Tanzania; Angola) and all of the ongoing operations within Southern Africa assets, so that this part of the organisation achieves its short and long term financial and operating objectives as set by the overall corporate business plan. It involves structured processes for planning, acquiring, maintaining, operating, and optimising of these assets in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Experience
  • 10-15 years of experience managing large number of Africa based warehousing and logistics assets such as rail tractions.
  • In depth experience in Logistics Road and Rail and some sea / vessels experience in Africa.
  • Planning and implementing operations processes.

This includes designing products to meet customer requirements, quality standards, and delivery commitments.

Managing resources

This includes optimising supply chain logistics, managing budgets and forecasts, and working with HR to support staff development.

Ensuring quality control

This includes conserving safety measures and ensuring the quantity required is produced, quality is maintained, and material wastage is minimised.

Developing marketing strategies

This includes working closely with senior management, and taking ownership of profit and loss (P&L) results.

Leading teams

This includes fostering a high-performance culture by setting and tracking team scorecard metrics, and serving as a liaison between management and supervisors.

Skills:

  • Language: English preferred with French / Portuguese additional, not mandatory.
  • Great written and oral communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and oversee budgets, plans, policies, and programs that will effectively implement the business strategies and objectives.
  • Liaise with other business units and country heads across the whole organisation to ensure that the strategies and activities of the company’s business units/assets are integrated with other parts of the business and are aligned with the overall corporate objectives.
  • Liaise with local managers of the business lines to ensure the highest growth and profitability (Ebitda) in line with regional objectives.
  • Assist leading the regional management team to deliver results as per objectives set up by business line managers.
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s principles, policies and local laws.
  • Set and monitor the performance of the business unit/assets against standards and targets in areas such as manufacturing and administration efficiency, and human resource management.
  • Monitor competitive environment of the business unit/assets to identify threats and opportunities and develop business plans to address them.
  • Act as group representative to relevant stakeholders in the country of operations and represent the company’s interest maintaining good relationships with such.
  • Source and develop new business opportunities.
