Job description

The position challenges the incumbent to set high standards and goals for achievement in more than one functional area and take ownership of the respective region.

The position requires a positive, "can do" mindset, an attitude, tenacity, energy, and ambition to drive business performance while taking full accountability for short-, medium-, and long-term results.

Requirements for Applicants

  1. Educational: Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent
  2. Experiential: 5+ years of senior management or leadership experience

Associated Tasks

  1. Achieve regional goals and revenue targets.
  2. Ensure compliance with customs and SARS requirements.
  3. Oversee daily operations and management of regional budget and costs.
  4. Ensure collaboration and synergies between operations and commercial teams in the region.
  5. Engage regularly and meet with key customers for the region.
  6. Drive commercially focused business vision for the region.
  7. Develop performance objectives for the regional team in line with national targets.
  8. Liaise with external stakeholders, rail & ports to ensure an effective and efficient supply chain.
  9. Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  10. Develop a culture of operational excellence and ensure it's embedded in the region.
  11. Ensure customer service requirements are met and exceeded.
  12. Ensure a safe operating environment for all staff in the region.
  13. Design regional strategy and set goals for growth.

Competencies: Knowledge and Skills

  1. Strategic management competencies to shape and refocus the business for growth.
  2. Understanding of key business financial drivers and interpretation of key indices.
  3. Communication - Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels (senior customers and staff/management).
  4. Ability to negotiate with trade unions/shop stewards on substantive/IR matters to ensure business stability.
  5. General management - with 5+ years' proven experience at senior management level.
  6. Commercial and Operational experience in warehousing, supply chain, logistics, and refined metal exports in Africa.
  7. Commercially astute senior manager with experience in commodity exports/imports, refined metals, FMCG, and supply chain in Africa.
  8. Proven record of accomplishment in improving business results and performance.
  9. Business Expertise Leadership.
