Job Description
The position of General Engineering Supervisor assists the engineer with the general supervision of section engineering activities for mining, processing equipment, and infrastructure in the Red Area Plant.
The Red Area Plant is an integral part of our diamond recovery process. It is important to ensure equipment is reliable and maintained to exceptional standards to support the business plan.
Key Performance Areas
- Supervises and assists with the coordination of engineering activities safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet short-term production objectives.
- Manages resources to deliver maintenance and operational targets.
- Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety, and risk management standards and best practices.
- Manages, controls, and motivates the team in the area of responsibility.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimization initiatives for engineering processes.
- Ensures adherence to Mine Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures and legal requirements.
- Manages and controls the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to the approved budget.
- Communicates effectively and manages required inputs and outputs between sections under management and other sections within the production stream.
- Performs technical investigations into equipment failures and accident damages.
- Plans and coordinates major shutdowns with internal and external clients to ensure timely allocation of resources.
- Performs inspections in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing, and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery.
Qualifications
- Minimum N4 certificate - Millwright, Boilermaker, Electrical, Fitter, or relevant trade qualification.
- Preferred: Recognized Diploma or Degree in relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years previous supervisory experience.
Role-specific Knowledge
- Supervisory (Foreman) experience in the mining environment.
- Thorough understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment principles and the ability to implement effective controls to manage risks within the section.
- Ability to develop and implement processes requiring a command of highly specialized technical and basic research skills across disciplines.
- Good understanding of Continuous Business Improvement principles and the ability to effectively implement them.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Sound knowledge of mining disciplines and machinery.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize.
- Good customer and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to function both individually and as part of a team.
- Teamwork and networking skills.
- Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Results-driven.
