Job DescriptionYou will take on the responsibility to ensure safe work practices, a safe working environment and ensure that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to Electrical Engineering are implemented and adhered to. You will also be required to conduct equipment failure analysis, root cause analysis, best practices, and repair strategies to ensure optimal use.
More of your responsibilities will include:- Conducting regular audits on the operations or new projects, identifying potential risk and making recommendations
- Establishing causes of failure and participating in incident/equipment failure investigations and providing recommendations and action plans
- Effectively managing the projects of electrical engineering ensuring best practices, research, and knowledge sharing as well as commissioning the projects and planning for contingencies
- Monitoring the progress and costs of the project and reporting regularly on the variances and ensuring that capital applications are submitted on time and assisting the operations with capital applications where necessary as well as managing the contractors
- Engagement with Escom regarding power shuts related to dragline walks and ensuring compliance with all electrical standards and procedures
- Responsible for equipment inspections on electrical equipment received from OEM/repairers/suppliers to ensure compliance with required standards
- Assisting and advising on equipment maintenance on equipment ensuring AACSA standards and procedures are followed, as well as ensuring equipment maintained in workshops are carried out as per the OEM requirement and ARP 0108
- Providing full support to the team and keeping abreast with new technologies in Electrical engineering
This role is in the Engineering Department at Band 6 and reports to the Engineering Manager.Qualifications- Technical Electrical Qualification: Minimum N6 or National Diploma
- Completion of a Medium Voltage course
- Completion of a Light Voltage course
- Completion of a DRA protection course
- Driver’s License
- AA Plc Safety Course: A3
Experience- In-depth electrical engineering experience within the coal mining industry
- Underground or opencast electrical experience crucial
- Experience as an electrical foreman or GES in the mining industry would be preferable
Additional Information- Knowledge of Relevant Legislation including (Mine Health and Safety Act/ Minerals and Energy Act/Environmental Legislation)
- An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS)
- A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining Industry
- Aware of best practices and new technologies relating to Engineering Principles and Processes
