Job summary

Cashbuild Shallcross store seeks a General Assistant to support customers and keep shelves tidy. Fluency in English and the local language, plus basic arithmetic, are required for accurate service and checkout processes.

You will help customers, resolve queries, and ensure shelves align with store layout. This role requires shift work, including weekends/public holidays, and the ability to stay composed in busy periods at the Durban-area Shallcross store.

Qualifications

• Must have at least Grade 10 or NQF 3 with 1 year related work experience.
• Grade 12 with no related work experience is also acceptable.
• Fluent in English and the dominant local language.
• Valid South African ID or work permit.
• Able to perform basic calculations accurately.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist customers on correct products and queries.
• Assist with and resolve customer complaints.
• Merchandise bulk stock area safely and per store layout.
• Ensure area is fully merchandised and free of obstacles.
• Ensure shelf prices are accurate and labelling is correct.
• Complete required checklists for duties (canteen and toilets).
• Follow OHSA safety requirements and report discrepancies.

Key Performance Area:

Customer Service

• Advise and assist Customers on correct products and queries.
• Assist with and resolve Customer complaints
• Bulk stock area to be merchandised safely and according to Store layout plan
• Must ensure your area of responsibility is fully merchandised according to Store layout and planograms.
• Ensure that your area is free of obstacles, stock is merchandised immediately after being received and that Customers can enter and leave your aisle without any risk of injury or irritation.
• Correct shelf price labelling within area of responsibility.
• Ensure Checklist completed as required when on duty with Canteen and Toilet/Showers schedule

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

• Safety (OHSA) compliance (e.g. use of safety gear, ensure customer and staff safety) within area of responsibility
• Ensure area of responsibility (racking and bulk) stock merchandised safe to Customers and Colleagues to move safely within Store
• Report any discrepancies to the Store Manager
• Report damaged stock within area of responsibility to Store Manager
