Job Description

This role is a business development position supporting and influencing tied financial planners to place business with Old Mutual (Wealth, Max, Invest, and S&I). The Fund & Investment Specialist (FIS) aims to activate and increase the number of investment planners in the market, secure more business inflows, and increase net client cash flow from these planners. We are seeking a motivated, results-driven candidate to join our KZN team.

Responsibilities

  • Empower tied planners to market (sell) Old Mutual’s investment products/platforms to clients.
  • Develop business development plans for a panel of advisers for up to one year.
  • Support planners in their practice (e.g., PGP tool, coaching) by assisting sales staff with product knowledge, industry insights, competitor analysis, product positioning, and market updates.
  • Identify business development and product marketing opportunities.
  • Support the execution of efficient administration and processing of business.
  • Assist Product Management, Product Marketing, and Distribution Marketing with the rollout of product marketing strategies in regions.
  • Contribute to the design of new products and enhancements to existing ones.
  • Deliver formal presentations to channels, advisors, and clients.
  • Manage product marketing events to enhance Old Mutual’s profile in regions.
  • Compile and oversee regional product development budgets.

Additional Business Development Activities

  • Participate in formulating strategies and structuring key transactions to ensure financial health and maximum value throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Handle alliances, collaborations, mergers, acquisitions, licensing, and other initiatives.

Customer Needs Clarification

  • Consult with customer representatives at various levels to identify outcomes, introduce internal specialists, and analyze complex customer data to clarify medium- to long-term needs.

Customer Relationship Development / Prospecting

  • Implement relationship management plans for strategic accounts to build key relationships locally and nationally.
  • Coordinate engagement with customer organizations to ensure effective communication and issue resolution.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Data

  • Maintain high-quality customer information within internal systems.
  • Provide input to improve CRM systems to meet business needs.

Sales Opportunities Creation

  • Develop networks with senior managers and represent the organization at sector events.
  • Gather market intelligence, promote the organization, and enhance its reputation.

Sell Customer Propositions

  • Lead cross-functional teams to configure tailored product solutions meeting customer needs.
  • Negotiate agreements ensuring profitability and cash flow, review complex proposals, and escalate issues when necessary.

Customer Relationship / Account Management

  • Develop and implement relationship plans for strategic accounts.
  • Manage key client relationships to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.

Operational Compliance

  • Ensure activities comply with external regulations and internal policies to minimize risks and protect reputation.

Personal Capability Building

  • Act as a subject matter expert in technology, policy, regulation, or operations.
  • Maintain professional development through certifications, conferences, and industry media.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Over 3 years of financial services experience (sales, marketing, or industry-related).
  • Tertiary education in business, commerce, or financial planning.
  • CFP designation is advantageous.
  • Experience with advice/investment tools, CRM systems, and MIS dashboards.
  • Strong industry knowledge, especially in investments and financial planning processes.
  • Understanding of regulatory legislation and compliance.
  • Legal knowledge related to products and compliance.
  • Experience with new business processes and distribution channel marketing.
