Engineering Geologist – Infrastructure Development (Johannesburg & Various Sites)

About the Role

A leading multi-disciplinary engineering and consultancy firm is seeking an experienced Engineering Geologist to join their team in Johannesburg, with project work across various sites.

This role offers the opportunity to provide technical expertise in geological site investigations, data collection, hazard identification, and environmental compliance to ensure the success of civil infrastructure projects.

You will play a critical role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of projects involving water, roads, stormwater, and sewer reticulation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Site Investigations & Data Collection: Conduct comprehensive site investigations, analyze subsurface conditions, and provide insights into ground stability and geological hazards.
  2. Sample Analysis & Risk Identification: Collect, analyze, and interpret soil, rock, and water samples to identify potential hazards and ensure project compliance with geological standards.
  3. Project & Construction Oversight: Provide expert advice on geotechnical considerations during project design and construction, ensuring adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
  4. Contract Management & Compliance: Manage contracts using frameworks such as FIDIC, GCC, JBCC, and NEC3, while ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations.
  5. Environmental Impact Assessment: Ensure compliance with Environmental Assessment Practitioners of South Africa (EAPASA) standards and other relevant authorities.
  6. Client Interface & Stakeholder Communication: Engage with clients and project stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and successful project outcomes.
  7. Technical Reporting & Documentation: Prepare high-quality technical reports, including geotechnical evaluations and environmental compliance assessments.
  8. Health & Safety Compliance: Promote a culture of safety and ensure all site activities comply with health & safety regulations.
  9. Proposal Writing & Marketing: Support business development efforts by contributing to proposal writing, public presentations, and marketing initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
  • Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc Eng).
  • Professional Registration with Pr Sci., SAIEG, and EAPASA.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, geology, and construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of contract management with experience in FIDIC, GCC, JBCC, and NEC3 frameworks.
  • Expertise in managing infrastructure projects involving water, roads, stormwater, and sewer reticulation.
  • Experience in client interfacing, project planning, and financial controls.
  • Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure funding models.
  • Exceptional technical report writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
