E-Merge is seeking a talented Full Stack Engineer to build AI-powered products end to end. You’ll work across frontend and backend with React, TypeScript and Python, and deploy to cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities include designing APIs, integrating LLM-powered features and RAG, and collaborating with ML teams. This permanent remote role in South Africa offers a salary of R800k per annum, negotiable based on experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience building full-stack web apps in production.
• Strong frontend skills: React, TypeScript, production-grade UIs.
• Strong backend skills: Python (FastAPI, Django, or similar) and API design.
• Relational databases experience (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL queries.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM features into a product (RAG, vector search).
• Cloud infra familiarity (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with AI coding assistants to accelerate development while reviewing AI output.

Job description

Are you a talented Full Stack Engineer looking for an opportunity to build modern, AI-powered products from end to end? This role offers the chance to work across both frontend and backend development, combining React, TypeScript and Python with cloud technologies and emerging AI capabilities.

You’ll be involved in building production-grade applications, designing APIs and database solutions, and integrating LLM-powered features, RAG and intelligent search into real-world products. You’ll also work with modern development practices including Docker, CI/CD and cloud infrastructure, while leveraging AI coding tools to accelerate development without compromising quality.

What we are looking for:

• 5+ years of professional experience building full-stack web applications in production
• Strong frontend skills: TypeScript and React, with experience building production-grade UIs
• Strong backend skills: Python (FastAPI, Django, or similar), with experience designing and building APIs and services
• Practical experience designing and working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and writing efficient queries
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs
• Experience integrating AI/LLM-powered features into a product - calling LLM APIs, working with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or vector search, or partnering with ML/AI teams to ship model-backed functionality
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker)
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals: testing, version control, code review, and system design
• Proficiency working with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development, while critically reviewing and validating AI-generated code

Nice to Have:

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and observability tooling (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry)
• Familiarity with vector databases or embedding-based search for AI-powered features
• Background working in a startup or small, cross-functional team
• Exposure to design systems and component libraries
