Job summary

PBT Group is seeking an experienced Data Engineer (Full Stack) to join our data team in Cape Town. You will design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms, ETL/ELT pipelines, and analytics-ready datasets to support BI and ML initiatives.

You will work across ingestion, warehouse modelling, and data products, collaborating with analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders in an Agile, hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years' experience in Data Engineering and Data Warehouse development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT solutions.
• Experience with dimensional modelling and data warehousing concepts.
• Strong understanding of data integration and pipeline architecture.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, including AWS.
• Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL.
• Programming in Python and SQL; Java and Shell scripting are advantageous.
• Knowledge of Git and SDLC; experience in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data ingestion pipelines.
• Build scalable ETL/ELT processes from multiple source systems.
• Monitor and optimise data integration for reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline issues.
• Design and implement data warehouse solutions and data marts.
• Develop dimensional models and data structures aligned with business needs.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance standards.
• Optimise data models for performance and scalability.
• Create curated datasets for reporting and analytics.
• Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver trusted data assets.
• Prepare clean, reusable datasets for dashboards and ML use cases.
• Participate in solution design, testing, deployment, and support.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to best practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across the data platform.
