The Role: Full-Stack & AI Developer/Engineer

This role exists to take increasing technical ownership of an established production platform while leading the structured transition of technical knowledge and capability from an external development provider into the organisation. The role contributes to the business by translating business requirements and intellectual property into secure, scalable, and differentiated digital experiences. Main focus areas combine hands-on full-stack development, platform architecture, production support, platform security and scalability, applied AI development, systems integration, and external technology-provider oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Hold at least 7 years of professional software development experience and at least 3 years operating at mid to senior-developer, mid to senior-engineer, or technical-lead level.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable front-end and back-end application functionality.
• Monitor, maintain, and support live production platform availability, security, reliability, performance, and incident resolution.
• Own and strengthen platform architecture to support growth in users, enterprise clients, multi-tenant environments, and system scalability.
• Lead the technical design, development, and integration of AI-enabled functionality, prompts, workflows, and retrieval-augmented generation capabilities.
• Build and maintain API integrations with calendars, communications tools, enterprise systems, webhooks, and analytics.
• Implement secure software development practices, ensuring compliance with POPIA, role-based access control, encryption, and responsible AI safeguards.
• Oversee external technology providers, define technical delivery standards, and review the quality, security, and costs of externally delivered work.

About You

• At least 7 years of professional software development experience.
• At least 3 years operating at mid to senior-developer, mid to senior-engineer, or technical-lead level.
• Strong full-stack TypeScript development experience with React, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated experience taking ownership of an established production platform or inherited codebase, addressing technical debt, and supporting live production systems.
• Experience contributing to architecture, infrastructure, scalability decisions, cloud hosting, deployments, monitoring, and application security.
• Strong experience with APIs, third-party integrations, OAuth, webhooks, and version control.
• Practical experience integrating generative AI, large language models, AI APIs, prompt workflows, or retrieval-augmented generation into production applications.
• Experience technically overseeing external developers or service providers.
• Strong debugging, testing, analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Accountable, hands-on, commercially aware, security-conscious, methodical in diagnosing technical problems, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with executives.
• Advantageous: Experience with Supabase (including PostgreSQL and Row Level Security), Next.js App Router, Server Components, Server Actions, Middleware, Trigger.dev, React Query, React Hook Form, and Zod.
• Advantageous: Experience with vector databases, semantic search, multi-tenant enterprise platforms, learning management or coaching systems, calendar/video integrations, SaaS models, and POPIA requirements.
