Job summary

Greys Personnel's client seeks an experienced Front End Loader Operator to operate heavy earthmoving equipment in a busy port, stevedoring and cargo-handling environment in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). You will ensure safe, efficient cargo handling, adhere to safety standards, perform pre-start checks and report issues promptly.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of Loader experience, a valid Loader/Earthmoving cert, and willingness to work shifts, weekends and overtime in a port setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' practical experience operating a Front End Loader.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Front End Loader safely and efficiently in accordance with operational requirements.
• Load, move, transfer and stockpile cargo and materials as required.
• Assist with loading and offloading of cargo within the port environment.
• Position and move materials efficiently to support stevedoring and cargo operations.
• Ensure cargo is handled carefully to minimise damage, loss and operational delays.
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections and equipment checks.
• Report mechanical defects, equipment damage or safety concerns immediately.
• Operate the equipment within its rated capacity and according to safe operating procedures.
• Follow instructions from the Foreman, Supervisor or other authorised personnel.
• Communicate effectively with other operators and members of the operational team.
• Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, vessels, machinery and other hazards within the work area.
• Comply with all port, client, health and safety requirements.
• Maintain good housekeeping around the operating area.
• Assist with maintaining an efficient and productive cargo-handling operation.
• Complete relevant equipment checklists and operational documentation.
• Ensure the safe parking, shutdown and securing of the machine when not in use.
• Perform other operational duties as required by management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the front end loader during cargo handling, loading, offloading, stockpiling and general port operations, while ensuring compliance with client safety standards and operational procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 2 years' practical experience operating a Front End Loader .
• Valid Front End Loader / Earthmoving Equipment Operator certification .
• Proven experience within a port, stevedoring, mining, logistics, warehouse or cargo-handling environment would be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of safe operating practices and procedures .
• Good understanding of equipment safety, pre-use inspections and daily checks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and operational personnel.
• Radio communication experience would be advantageous.
• Ability to work shifts, weekends and overtime when required.
• Code 08 driver's licence would be advantageous.
• Proactive, self-motivated and reliable.
• Good situational awareness and attention to detail.
• Immediate availability is essential.
• Must be residing in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) or surrounding areas.
