Placements24 is seeking an innovative Formulation Scientist to join the Pharmaceutical Development team in Paarl. The role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing novel drug delivery systems and dosage forms to translate candidates into stable, manufacturable products.

You will lead pre-formulation studies, optimize formulations for stability and bioavailability, and plan experiments from lab-scale to commercial production, while ensuring regulatory readiness and collaborative teamwork

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust oral solid dosage forms (tablets, capsules) and/or other dosage forms as required.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including characterization of APIs and excipients.
• Optimize formulations for stability, bioavailability, and manufacturability.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate formulation performance, including dissolution, disintegration, and content uniformity.
• Scale-up formulation processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing.
• Prepare development reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and present findings to project teams.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Formulation Scientist to join their Pharmaceutical Development team in Paarl . This role is central to the design, development, and optimization of novel drug delivery systems and dosage forms. You will apply your expertise in pharmaceutical sciences to translate drug candidates into stable, effective, and manufacturable medicinal products. This position requires a deep understanding of formulation principles, excipient compatibility, and drug product manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will contribute to pipeline advancement and possess a passion for scientific discovery in pharmaceutical formulation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust oral solid dosage forms (tablets, capsules) and/or other dosage forms as required.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients.
• Optimize formulations for stability, bioavailability, and manufacturability.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate formulation performance, including dissolution, disintegration, and content uniformity.
• Scale-up formulation processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing.
• Prepare development reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and present findings to project teams.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Strong knowledge of drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical excipients , and formulation techniques.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment for formulation development and characterization.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for drug product development and manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment in Paarl .
