Job description

Our esteemed client based in Roodepoort, Gauteng, is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research and Development (Formulations) Chemist to join their team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing and improving food and industrial products and processes, ensuring they meet the high standards and specific requirements of a diverse clientele. This role requires a deep understanding of food and industrial processes, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to environmental sustainability. You are required to have product formulation experience with either industrial products or within the FMCG (food) sector. Degree, Masters or PHD in Chemistry required. Remuneration negotiable depending on qualification and years relevant experience.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 to 7 years of experience in R&D, preferably within the food and beverages industry.
  • Strong knowledge of surface chemistry, food science, or process engineering.
  • Proven track record of developing successful products and processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and chemical analysis software.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Valid ID.
  • Valid License and own vehicle.
  • Clear medical and criminal record.

Duties :

  • Conduct research to develop new formulations and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Improve existing products and processes to enhance performance, reduce costs, and increase sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, engineering, and quality control to implement new processes and products.
  • Ensure all R&D activities comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in chemistry and related fields.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in scaling up laboratory processes to full production scale.
  • Conduct stability and performance testing of new and existing products.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their needs and tailor solutions accordingly.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to chemical processes and products.
