About the job: Forklift Driver (External Applications Only)
To operate and maintain the Forklift in a safe and cost-effective manner. Ensure comprehensive customer service in the store. Merchandising of stock, shelf price labeling, and housekeeping within the designated area of responsibility.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or minimum of 1 year of work-related experience
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area where the position is available
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
- Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Able to work under pressure
- Physically fit to operate a forklift
- Valid forklift license
Key Performance Area:
Customer Service
- Acknowledge all customers and determine their needs
- Advise customers correctly on products
- Assist customers with product queries
- Handle customer complaints promptly
- Upselling, e.g., paint vs. paint brushes, thinners, etc.
- Ensure efficient customer service by loading purchases without delays
- Load customer purchases carefully to avoid damage
- Inform customers about additional services: delivery, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programs, special orders, trusses, distant ordering, VIC Customer Program
- Certification in product knowledge required
- Be available in the aisle of responsibility
Merchandising Standards
- Merchandise bulk stock safely according to store layout plan
- Ensure your area is fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms
- Stock merchandise according to approved layouts and planograms
Housekeeping
Keep your area free of obstacles, merchandise stock immediately upon receipt, and ensure safe entry and exit for customers. Correctly label shelves within your responsibility. Complete checklists as required, including canteen and toilet/shower schedules.
Ready for Business

Loss Prevention and Security
- Identify gaps in displays, investigate causes, and report concerns
- Be alert to suspicious behaviors and report to management
- No product should be loaded without proof of purchase or necessary documentation
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Avoid overloading the forklift and racking
- Wear safety helmet and kidney belt when operating the forklift
- Do not lift personnel with the forklift
- Keep entry and exit clear of obstacles
- Report forklift faults immediately
- Report when the forklift is due for service
- Wear protective clothing when necessary
- Do not operate the forklift with mechanical faults
- Inspect the forklift daily, complete checklists, and report faults
