Job description

Position: Food Production Technician

Industry: FMCG – Food Manufacturing (Biscuits)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Food Production Technician to support operations in our biscuit manufacturing facility. The role involves overseeing daily production, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and ensuring equipment functions efficiently across all stages—from mixing and moulding to baking and packaging.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with at least 4 years’ experience in a food production environment, preferably within the baking or snack industry. The ideal candidate will be confident in making on-the-spot quality decisions, monitoring HACCP compliance, and supporting continuous improvement on the production line.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Oversight

  • Oversee daily operations on the production floor, ensuring smooth and efficient biscuit manufacturing processes.
  • Operate and monitor food production machinery, including mixers, dough moulding machines, gas tunnel ovens, oil spray machines, cooling conveyors, and packaging lines.

Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • Monitor machinery performance and perform routine maintenance to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and technical faults on the line.
  • Perform minor repairs and escalate complex issues to maintenance technicians.
  • Keep detailed records of machine performance, breakdowns, maintenance activities, and repairs.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Conduct in-line quality checks and make decisions based on test results and product specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to resolve any product or process deviations.
  • Handle and store materials in line with best practices to prevent contamination or deterioration.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all HACCP, food safety, and hygiene protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to GMP.

Team Collaboration

  • Support the production team in achieving daily output and quality targets.
  • Assist with training operators on machinery handling, cleaning protocols, and troubleshooting procedures.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a food production environment (baking/snacks/biscuits experience preferred).
  • Solid knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety practices.
  • Strong hands-on experience operating and maintaining food processing equipment.
  • Comfortable making real-time quality and production decisions.
  • Good recordkeeping and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Matric or equivalent is required; a technical certificate, diploma, or degree in food technology, consumer science, or food production is advantageous.
