Job summary

Tumaini Consulting in South Africa is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support automated manufacturing operations in Gauteng. You will maintain, optimise and monitor automation and control systems in a fast-moving consumer goods environment to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.

The role requires PLC programming and troubleshooting expertise, HMI/SCADA experience, and the ability to interpret electrical drawings.

Qualifications

• Matric and a relevant engineering degree (BSc/BTech Electrical or Electronic).
• Automation Engineering experience in an FMCG facility.
• PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with HMI and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of industrial networks and automation technologies.
• Fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to interpret electrical and control-system drawings.
• Project and communication skills; ability to work in production environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise industrial automation and control systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA and related control-system faults.
• Support production during automation-related breakdowns.
• Develop and implement automation improvements.
• Assist with commissioning and integration of automated equipment.
• Monitor control systems and identify opportunities to improve reliability.
• Perform root-cause analysis on recurring automation faults.
• Support preventative maintenance strategies for automation equipment.
• Work with electrical, instrumentation, maintenance and production teams.
• Assist with machine upgrades and process improvement projects.
• Maintain automation programmes, backups and technical documentation.
• Ensure automation activities comply with safety and operational requirements.
