Job summary

Novus Holdings Limited in Cape Town is seeking a Flexographic Printer Assistant to join our Production team. You will support the printer in setup, material handling, changeovers, and quality checks to ensure consistent print results.

The role requires Matric/Equivalent and at least 2 years of flexographic printing experience, with knowledge of inks and print standards; you will report to the Shift Leader and work in a busy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Matric/Equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as flexographic printer assistant or in a similar printing or packaging environment.
• Sound knowledge of the complete flexographic print production process.
• Experience with water-based, solvent-based, or UV inks advantageous.
• Knowledge of print registration, colour management, ink viscosity, anilox rolls, doctor blade systems, and print quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Flexographic Printer with setting up and preparing the printing machine.
• Assist with loading and unloading reels, substrates, inks, plates, and other materials.
• Help prepare printing cylinders, plates, anilox rolls, and other machine components.
• Assist with machine changeovers and cleaning between jobs.
• Monitor the machine during production and report abnormalities to the Operator.
• Assist with starting, stopping, and adjusting equipment under the Printer's direction.
• Prepare raw materials according to production requirements.
• Check that the correct substrate, ink, labels, packaging materials, and job specifications are being used.
• Move materials safely using appropriate equipment.
• Maintain accurate identification and segregation of materials.
• Minimise material wastage and report excessive waste to the Printer or Supervisor
• Inspect printed material for defects such as colour variation, registration problems, smudging, streaking, poor print quality, or incorrect information.
• Assist with maintaining consistent print quality throughout the production run.
• Ensure finished products meet the required customer and company specification.
