Job description

The above vacancy exists at our Packaged Gases department, Kempton Park, reporting to the Distribution Supervisor. Suitably qualified candidates who meet the requirements of this role are invited to apply for this vacancy.

Overview and Key Responsibilities

The Workshop Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the legal compliance with the transportation of the Dangerous Goods Legislation and ensuring that the Cylinder Fleet is always maintained in a roadworthy condition.

Key areas of responsibility for this role include but are not limited to:

  1. Conducting general physical fleet inspections - regularly assess the condition and safety of our fleet vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
  2. Oversee essential maintenance tasks, including the management of licensing, Certificates of Fitness (COF), and fire permits.
  3. Maintain compliance with regulations regarding dangerous goods, including the proper placement of placard signs on vehicles.
  4. Maintaining a clean and organized environment.
  5. Managing servicing records by keeping accurate and up-to-date records of all servicing and maintenance activities performed on fleet vehicles.
  6. Promoting Safety and Quality- adhering to safety protocols and quality assurance measures to enhance operational efficiency.
  7. Providing excellent customer service.

Essential Requirements

  1. A minimum of a Grade 12 certificate;
  2. A valid unendorsed Code EC drivers’ licence with (PrDPd);
  3. Must have a Dangerous Goods Certificate;
  4. A minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in the operation of the heavy-duty vehicles and familiar with the transportation of dangerous goods. Be mechanically minded;
  5. Must be computer literate and proficient with MS Office Suite;
  6. Must have good verbal and written communication skills, specifically in English.
