Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Platinum Business as a Fix Term Developer responsible for the health and safety of all persons in your team, fulfilling a shift-related role in an underground development area ensuring a safe, quality blast per day. This is a Fixed Term Contract appointment for Capital Development Services.

Job Description

This is a Fixed Term Contract appointment under Capital Development Services.

The focus for this role will be to:

  1. Ensure proper handover and communication with the alternate shift.
  2. Ensure good blasting and explosives management, including adherence to controls for explosives, boxes, centralized blasting NSS box, etc., and order explosives when necessary.
  3. Collect and test Lamp, GDI (Gas detecting instrument), proceed underground, check material/cars/services, report on any GDI triggers or exceptions at the end of shift.
  4. Adhere to waiting place procedures: check PPE/injuries, collect clock cards, conduct safety/production/briefings, confirm daily tasks, ensure material/equipment availability, check store, update notice board, ensure explosive boxes are locked/clean, inspect Refuge bay and First Aid Box, test gases, ensure ventilation, and conduct Fire Drill.
  5. Oversee completion of Pre-start/Pre-use Risk assessments and SLAM by team members.
  6. Support Temporary & Permanent Support Installation adhering to Mine Standards and Geotechnical recommendations.
  7. Prepare faces and mark off shots, ensuring safety and proper procedures.
  8. Drill shotholes following safe practices.
  9. Charge up with adherence to safety procedures, proper gas testing, and correct explosive loading.
  10. Conduct timing/blasting as per standards, ensuring safety and schedule adherence.
  11. Monitor Quality Control, measure face advance, and report on daily progress and hazards.
  12. Conduct detailed shift reporting on injuries, incidents, equipment status, hazards, and material use.
  13. Implement best/leading mining practices within the working area.

This role reports to the Shift Supervisor Mining within the Mining department at a C2 level.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Medically and physically fit.
  • Blasting certificate / Rock Breaking Certificate required.
  • Passed developer-specific training modules.
  • Passed area-specific training modules for Developer.
  • Passed basic developing equipment maintenance modules.

Knowledge, skills, and experience required:

  • 3 years relevant experience as a Developer or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal requirements (advantageous): MHSA Chapters 14, 9, 22, 23; Minerals Act Chapter 8.
